FAQs:
Move Better. Train Better. Stay Out of Pain.
At PHYT for Function, we provide 1-on-1 physical therapy, occupational therapy, and personal training in Cleveland, Fairview Park, Beachwood, Twinsburg, Hudson, and Boardman, OH focused on helping active adults get out of pain and back to training without relying on rest, medications, or unnecessary imaging.

What should I expect after my first session?
Most clients notice a change right away.
Our goal is to create a 20–40% improvement in your first visit by identifying the source of your pain and applying the right combination of manual therapy and movement.
You’ll leave with:
-
A clear plan
-
Targeted exercises
-
A better understanding of what’s driving your symptoms

Can I keep working out during physical and occupational therapy?
Yes AND we encourage it.
We use a relative rest approach, meaning:
-
Modify what aggravates symptoms
-
Keep everything else moving
Goal: build capacity, not shut you down

Do you take insurance?
We are a private pay physical and occupational therapy clinic.
That means:
-
No insurance restrictions
-
No surprise bills
-
Full 1-on-1 sessions
We can provide a superbill for reimbursement, and many clients use HSA/FSA funds.

What makes PHYT different from other PT clinics?
We focus on performance-based physical therapy.
Every 50-minute session includes:
-
1-on-1 care
-
Ongoing assessment
-
Hands-on treatment
-
Strength + movement progressions
We don’t just treat pain, we help you move better long-term.

This sounds great! How do I start?
Head to our Online Booking site to book in Cleveland, Fairview Park, Beachwood, Twinsburg, Hudson, or Boardman, OH, based on your location!
All of our licensed therapists are trained in dry needling, return-to-sport, and general orthopedics.
A couple of our offices do have specialties such as Dr. Kalyn, our Pelvic Floor specialist in Hudson, and Dr. Joe, our running specialist in Twinsburg!
Personal training can be done in person or remotely!

Do you offer dry needling?
Yes.
We specialize in neurologic dry needling, which targets the nervous system to:
-
Reduce pain
-
Improve mobility
-
Restore movement patterns
This is one of our most effective tools for getting fast results.

How often should I come in?
Most clients follow this structure:
-
1–2x/week early on
-
Every 2–4 weeks as pain improves
We solve pain first, then shift toward performance and prevention.
Everyone is different! We will customize a plan tailored to you, your goals, and your schedule!

Should I book a 50 or 25 minute session?
We recommend all first-time clients book a 50-minute initial evaluation and treatment. This allows us to thoroughly assess your movement, identify the root cause of your symptoms, and begin treatment on day one.
After your initial visit, you and your therapist may choose between 50- or 25-minute sessions based on your needs.
A 50-minute session is ideal if you have multiple areas to address or need continued exercise progression and guidance.
A 25-minute session works well for a focused, quick tune-up on a single area.
If you’re unsure which option is best, just ask your PT or OT. We’re happy to guide you!

Will I be sore after treatment?
Possibly—but it’s usually mild.
Soreness from dry needling, cupping, or manual therapy feels similar to a workout and typically lasts 24–48 hours.
If it’s more than that, we adjust.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No.
You can start physical therapy and occupational therapy without a referral thanks to direct access laws.
If you need imaging or a specialist, we’ll guide you.

Is private pay physical therapy worth it?
Often, yes.
Many insurance-based visits still cost $150–$200+ per session with deductibles and co-insurance.
At PHYT, clients typically:
-
Need fewer visits
-
Get faster results
-
Spend less overall

Can I try a group fitness class before signing up?
