Faster Results, Less Pain

The PHYT team is excited to announce that we will be incorporating Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) as part of our therapy treatments and fitness training! Nick Sanders, DPT, is now a certified provider by Owens Recovery Science. BFR helps you improve strength and endurance with minimal weights, allowing you to stay fit during injury recovery.

How Does it Work?

Background

Invented by Johnny Owens back in 2012, BFR is quickly becoming a highly researched idea for recovery!  BFR consists of a specialized band placed on the injured limb that monitors heart rate and then creates a pressure specific to the patient that restricts blood flow. This restriction creates an anaerobic response in the muscle that helps stimulates muscle growth. The Owen's Recovery Science research found BFR cuffs have proven pain reduction after a mere 3-6 weeks with an increase of strength in the injured muscle by almost 50%!

How We Use It

We use it for patients to strengthen areas that are recovering  from an injury and cannot lift weights required to maintain strength. The cuffs cause your muscles to fatigue quicker with normal exercise, even with lighter weights. The blood flow restriction mimics cellular swelling and fatigue to stimulate protein production for faster muscle growth while using light weight exercise.
